Our Lady of La Vang (Đức Mẹ La Vang) is a significant figure in Vietnamese Catholicism. The story dates back to 1798 when Catholics in Vietnam were persecuted and sought refuge in the rainforest of La Vang. During this time, many became ill, and while praying, they reported seeing an apparition of the Virgin Mary, dressed in traditional Vietnamese áo dài, holding a child with two angels beside her. She comforted them and advised them to boil leaves from the trees for medicine.
The site of the apparition, now known as the Basilica of Our Lady of La Vang, has become an important pilgrimage destination for Vietnamese Catholics and the Vietnamese diaspora. The basilica has been rebuilt several times and remains a symbol of faith and resilience.
